Situated in the geographic center of Colorado, Park County offers a unique blend of western history and outdoor recreation.

The lovely area is known for its many scenic drives. Vacationers can travel Weston, Boreas and Guanella passes, which trace historic railroad and stagecoach routes, to find ghost towns, railroad remnants and mining memorabilia. Take in spectacular views on Mosquito Pass, the highest automobile pass in North America, or check out the panoramic views of the South Park basin on Hossier, Kenosha and Wilkerson passes.

Take a closer look at the area's history by visiting Fairplay's South Park City Museum, where you'll find a spectacular collection of artifacts from the 19th century mining town. Stop by quaint Hartsel for a look at some historic architecture and a dip in the town's hot springs, once frequented by the Mountain Utes.

Park County is also great for water lovers and wildlife enthusiasts. Spinney Mountain Reservoir, Eleven Mile Reservoir and Antero Reservoir are great for anglers. Their Gold Medal waters are home to large cutthroat, rainbow and brown trout as well as northern pike. Bird watchers can look for flocks of white pelicans, blue herons, avocets, sandhill cranes, ibis and Canadian geese near the shallower stretches of water.
